Think about this… when was the last time you went to a wedding and saw a bride wearing a long-sleeved gown or a gown with a jacket or bolero? Strapless gowns seem to be de riguer no matter the size of the bride, how cut her biceps are or the season!! Yet, there is a market for long sleeved, 3/4, sleeved and other more modest style gowns. There’s a growing market for the modest gown, including religious groups- Orthodox Jews, Mormons and Muslims to name a few- as well as older brides, brides with multiple marriages and brides who are savvy enough to know they are not shapely enough to carry off a strapless dress. Why not look the best you can look? Explore gown styles for “modest brides”–you can Google it and find many ideas. One of the brides I shot recently had a beautiful, rounded figure and chose to wear a net bolero covered with lace over her gown–she looked fabulous! Pick a gown that will make you look and feel beautiful, even if it’s “modest’!! Years from now, when you look at your digital album, you want to feel that you made the best choice possible for your gown and were not just following trends. If you live in New Jersey, have you been to Couture de Bride in Teaneck? It’s worth the trip!

What do wedding photographers shoot during the week when they are not at weddings? Some may be shooting studio or on-location portraits, others may be shooting corporate events, fashion shows, sports or maybe even a cooking show with the Food Network!!! This wedding photographer just loves shooting people and events, and recently I had the chance to shoot for the Yes Network’s programming of two New York Jets– Nick Mangold (r) and D’ Brickashaw Ferguson (center) as they cooked up tailgate food with the Food Network’s Aaron McCargo Jr. (left). It was not only fun, but it’s the kind of work that keeps me on my toes for your wedding shoot–there are lighting conditions to pay attention to, facial expressions to capture, and the pressure was on to produce great images in a tight timeframe. So…. don’t be surprised if your wedding photographer’s by line appears on TV, in a fashion magazine or on the web!

Surprising things may happen during your wedding shoot-a sudden rain shower and your uncle hands you his green golf umbrella. Your father cries as he gives you away. A red motorcycle sits by the entrance of the restaurant. A streak of moonlight falls across the dance floor. Your photographer–at least one with any eye, vision, artistry–will see these moments and capture them for you in the photographic portfolio of your wedding day. Be sure to review in entirety several weddings your photographer has shot. Selected images from numbers of weddings compiled in one digital album may not present the true picture of the photographer’s work. Does your wedding photographer have to be a member of Magnum or on the teaching staff of the International Center of Photography? No, but he or she must have an eye for detail so that even the smallest moments, bathed in beauty, become part of the record of the most important day in your life. Let’s hear about an artistic shot from your wedding!

October 3rd, 2008Do you know that the hurricane season in our part of the world runs from about May 1 to mid-November, so… how does that affect your wedding planning? For sure, if you are thinking about the Caribbean during this time period, think twice!!
Hurricane Hannah blew across the East Coast on an early September Saturday and rained out many outdoor weddings. I actually was shooting at a wedding on Long Island and the timing was fortunately just right–the heavy rains began when the festivities were ending making for a messy drive back to the inns and hotels!
Even coastal Maine had hurricane warnings last week for the first time in 17 years!!
Bottom line–do pay attention to local weather wherever your destination wedding takes place and remember hurricane season!
Anyone have any weather stories to share?
Best wishes for great weather and a great wedding!

Have you been to a wedding where the officiant for the ceremony was not a priest, rabbi or minster but rather a friend or family member of the couple? Is this legal–yes, it definitely is… you just have to follow the laws in your state. More and more, couples are looking for something different, something more meaningful and personal not only in their wedding photography, but in the entire design of their weddings from the invitations to the blessings and vows. Some are calling upon friends and relatives while others are choosing “celebrants” to officiate at their ceremonies whether local or destination weddings. This photographer has shot at several weddings in the New York and New Jersey area where celebrants officiated, and the personal style of the wedding definitely gave me the green light to creating a very personal style of photography!
For more information on celebrants, see the web site for the Celebrant USA Foundation www.celebrantusa.com

So you live in North Jersey or Manhattan, love the beach but think it’s so far away!!! Actually some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen are just an hour away in Spring Lake, NJ and nearby Sea Girt. What perfect places for engagement or post wedding shoots. Talk with your New Jersey Wedding Photographer to discuss the best options for you. Time of day is very important–noon is definitely out! In fact, any New York Wedding Photographer would agree that the perfect time to shoot is one hour before sunset. How romantic! What do you think about photos on the beach??

June 30th, 2008Wearable art pieces come in all shapes and sizes and may include glass, precious metals, fabric, flowers, a love poem from your husband on handmade paper–the creativity of artists is astounding!
Your wearable art should enhance your appearance and not overwhelm–a necklace will make an especially beautiful focal point for your wedding portrait and close ups of you and your husband. Your attendants can wear companion pieces–the sky’s the limit!
How can you find out more? Search the web for wearable art and sign up for blogs. A great one is www.wearableartblog.com written by art, design and jewelry enthusiast Sandi Atlas-Gordon.
Have fun with your wedding photographer who will help make your wedding day beautiful and memorable.

New Jersey Wedding Photographer | New York Wedding Photographer | Wedding Photography NJ
May 13th, 2008You live in the NY/NJ metro area and don’t know if you should choose a New York wedding photographer ? How do you begin the process? Do you start with a yellow page directory and look up New Jersey wedding photographer or New York wedding photographer or do you go straight to the Internet? Can you rely on a friend who thinks she knows every last detail about wedding photography in NJ?
If you feel comfortable with the Internet, then I would say start with Google, or whatever search engine you feel comfortable with. Begin with a search built around where your wedding will take place. For example, you’ve chosen a gorgeous estate up on the Hudson River and you want someone who’s shot at that location, so start with: New York wedding photographer. See what comes up, then narrow it down by geography. Of course you can call your venue and see if they recommend any New York photographers–some places keep a list of their favorites.
Many photographers from New Jersey love to shoot in NY and vice versa so don’t limit your search–check out New Jersey wedding photographer even if your wedding is in New York.
Bottom line–you want the best photographer possible, one who shoots in the style you want, who is a PROFESSIONAL (not weekend shooter with a digital camera) and who helps you both feel comfortable. Remember to ask lots of questions, take notes and always make sure you are comparing apples with apples!
Congratulations!
