When it comes to your digital wedding album, there are so many choices!! Your wedding photographer will probably show you one or two album companies that he/she prefers to work with. More choices would be even more confusing for the excited bride and groom!!
This NJ wedding photographer is always on the lookout for the latest in wedding albums. That’s why it’s so important for your photographer to be a full time professional in the business–attending trade shows, participating in professional organizations and staying on top of the best and latest in the world of wedding photos.
I happen to love designing albums using the Graphi album software. I think Graphi albums are unique-there are so many possiblities that the only liomit is the designer’s imagination and the client’s budget. Graphi albums are used by some of the world’s best wedding photographer.

Here are a couple of sample pages from my recently designed albums. You can see more videos and wedding photos videos on my Biz FaceBook page.

As a New York/New Jersey photographer, I do have clients who are glamorous and influenced by the New York lifestyle and celebrity scene. This bride truly projects her unique sense of fashion and design. She created the unusual headpiece she wore, which will make for a great detail shot in her digital wedding album. Keeping the backgrounds simple and the light natural also enhanced the quality of these wedding photos. When you select your wedding photographer, be sure to look at a wide range of his/her work, from print to electronic and large (wall) format as well as album size. Keep your eyes open and you will love your wedding photos!

Just got the results from the NJ Professional Photographers Association (PPANJ) print competition. I entered four images this year and each image earned a Red Ribbon-just below the higher honor. The judging is tough and the competition fierce, so I’m pleased.
Entering competitions keeps this NJ photographer sharp! The very first image I entered in a competition was 30 years ago– that photo of an American flag reflecting back into the window of a white colonial house won first prize in a State of Connecticut tourism contest– $500 was a fortune back then!!
The image above shows two dancers from the very talented Amalgamate Dance Company of NYC. Taken with ambient light only during a live performance. Next is a “Kiss to Remember” shot in a backyard at an at-home Bat Mitzvah party. I used my Canon 5D Mark II and enhanced the image in Photoshop to highlight the viewer’s attention on those sweet faces. Also using the same camera and window light only is the tender moment between the husband and his very pregnant wife. The contrast between his “roughness” evidenced by t-shirt contrasts well with her dreaminess and softness.

Finally, the image of the solo dancer was taken at an outdoor evening performance in 1982. I pushed the black and white film to its limits and pushed the processing in the dark room. The image remained very grainy until it was converted to digital and met up with Photoshop where the grain was softened and the satiny light enhanced. To do this day it remains my all time favorite image. By the way, feel free to contact me about purchasing any of these images.

It’s the Law!!!
Here are some important points to know about photography copyrights. If you want more information, you can go to the Professional Photographers of America web site or call them at 1-800-786-6277. www.ppa.org
1. Copyright law gives a professional photographer certain exclusive rights, including the right to: reprint the photograph, sell reprints of the photo, create modified images based on the photo and display the image publicly.
2. Just because a photograph is on the Internet does not mean it is in the public domain
3. Copyright law protects the photographer even if the photographer has not gotten a copyright registration and even if the photograph is published without a copyright notice.
4. You can be personally liable for copyright infringement even if you did not mean to break the law.
5. Purchasing prints of a photo or a CD or DVD from a professional photographer does NOT transfer the copyright of the photo to you without a release.
6. Reputable printers and large companies such as Costco will want to see a written release form before you print photographs from a professional photographer.
Be sure to have this important discussion regarding releases and copyright with your professional photographer!

Whether you are looking for a photographer for a family portrait, engagement portrait or a Bar or Bat Mitzvah portrait, you will have to decide with your photographer on the style you want. I think of the choice in style as being formal versus informal, traditional versus contemporary, posed versus photojournalistic or candid. It’s your preference!!
Your clothes, makeup, location, and even posture and affect will all be determined by the style you choose. You need to select the kinds of photography that feels right and comfortable to you.
In working with your photographer, you may decide to change clothes or even settings and have both styles in one shoot. That way you have a choice; for example, of a traditional family portrait painting on canvas for the living room wall and more informal images shot in a park, the beach or your own backyard for your digital album or magazine style book. Same goes for engagement photos and even Bar and Bat Mitzvah portraits. Personally, this photographer likes the idea of combining styles for variety and choice. In this post are portraits I’ve taken that show the difference between “formal” and “informal” styles.

All Photos by Nancy Katz ©
Looking for the perfect vintage wedding dress? Then go to Lambertville, NJ and visit owner/designer Paula Cooperman and her fabulous collection of vintage wedding dresses, couture dresses, shoes, handbags, jewelry and more.
I would love to shoot a summer wedding where all the women are wearing dresses from this collection– they would look like flowers in a garden and make the most beautiful photos in the digital wedding albums I love to create!

I’ll be shooting a wedding later this summer at The Lambertville Inn, which is just down the street from the store. So…if you are into a couture, glamorous yet down to earth Lambertville green wedding. think Mill Crest Vintage, think NJ.
Before I go, a great idea (I think) from this New Jersey wedding photographer…the days of changing into a more “casual” dress from your bridal gown after the ceremony are returning! Women are buying beautiful, fun, unusual shorter dresses in all colors from white to red to florals and dancing up a storm ! Recently, one of my brides changed into her flowy white and black dress and visited all the guest tables while I shot her showing off her dress, her ring and kissing her friends and family.

Think unique!!!
Nancy

So you live in North Jersey or Manhattan, love the beach but think it’s so far away!!! Actually some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen are just an hour away in Spring Lake, NJ and nearby Sea Girt. And Atlantic City’s got the pier!! What perfect places for engagement or post-wedding shoots. Talk with your New Jersey wedding photographer to discuss the best options for you. Time of day is very important–noon is definitely out! In fact, any New York wedding photographer would agree that the perfect time to shoot is one hour before sunset. How romantic! What do you think about photos on the beach??
P.S. Ask your portrait photographer about shooting your family reunion, 25th anniversary, your dog–just about any portrait works on the beach!
P.P.S. Will it ever stop raining this Spring?? Hmmm…umbrellas in the rain on the beach–could be nice!
Best wishes,
Nancy Katz

Create your own digital wedding album?? Why when your photographer has years of experience with a variety of albums and is a designer as well???!!
Your photographs and digital wedding album are your lasting memory of one of the most important days of your life. In fact, think of your wedding album as an heirloom, that can be passed down from one generation to the next. You want the best album with the best wedding photography and design possible!!

At the same time, ask yourself if the New York or New Jersey wedding photographer you chose is skilled and talented enough to create your heirloom album. Make sure your photographer is a professional–not a weekend shooter, well-trained, a member of the noted photography associations and active in his/her state organizations. Take a serious look at his/her sample albums from all categories–not just weddings! Are they consistently good??
Digital wedding albums are gorgeous and filled with your lasting memories–go for the best!

This New Jersey wedding photographer loves to tell stories. Whether I’m telling the story of a bride and groom and their New York wedding or I’m telling the story of a couple in New Jersey who got married after going out for 14 years, I’m telling a story, a life story, through images only–wedding photography without words.
I also love participating in photo competitions, especially juried art shows. It keeps me sharp, creative and on my toes for outstanding moments that may happen right before my eyes! Currently, I’m one of 28 artists in a juried show at the Teaneck, NJ Library coordinated by the Teaneck Festival of Arts (I’m a volunteer for the TFOA, helping to showcase the arts in my community).

My four images entitled “End of the Day 1-4″ are in a floating frame and together, without any words, they give a view of end of the day activities around the world. #1 is a sunset on Lake Ontario near Rochester, NY; #2 is a man drinking espresso in Girona, Spain; #3 is a runner in Dubrovnik, Croatia and #4 is a woman winding down on the cell phone with her young daughter asleep in PA. What story do you see when you look at the images?? Do they move you? Inspire you? How do you respond??

Make sure your New York or New Jersey wedding photographer has a keen eye, loves their work and produces a creative flow in your images, telling your story of the best day of your life!! You want to respond with emotion every time you look at your digital wedding album!
